Aruna: Lensois until 2010
By: Jay | December 26th, 2007
It has been made official that Lens’ top striker Aruna Dindane will remain in the blood and gold until 2010.
The The Ivory Coast international was reportedly approached by a few Premier League clubs, namely Wigan but the Artisan club moved to head off any interest by handing him a new deal.
Dindane, who first made a name for himself in Europe with Anderlecht in the Belgian Jupiler, ascended upon the Stade Bollaert three seasons ago.
Aruna has pledged his immediate future to the northern giants three weeks before playing the African Cup of Nations for the Elephants of the Ivory Coast.
Lens are in the hunt for a new striker to bolster their attacking lines after a deadful first half of the new season.
“Lens chairman Gervais Martel has announced that Aruna Dindane has just signed a contract extension with Sang et Or until June 2010,” an announcement was made on the club’s official website.
“The Ivory Coast international ends the rumours predicting an imminent move to an English club.”
This certainly is good news for a side that has seen very little in this bleak season which has seen the loss of most of his major stars being replaced by ineffective journeymen such as Julien Sable, Luigi Pieroni, Olivier Monterrubio among others.
With the postponment of last weekend’s derby against Lille the Lensois find themselves firmly in the relegation zone and in a dizzying crisis going into the new year.
