Cissé rumors dispelled, Gouffran battle continues
By: Jay | December 11th, 2007In the lead up to the winter transfer period many rumors have been circulating at La Gaillette, namely the recent article published in L’Equipe which mentioned the possibility of Djibril Cissé heading to Lens on a loan contract.
According to coach Jean-Pierre Papin the article seems to have come a bit late. The Lens boss has categorized such rumors as “ancient history”. He admitted that Lens was indeed interested in aquiring the superstar striker’s services in the form of a loan deal with an option to buy however, it was not financially feasable and the club has moved on to other options.

The most notable option has become Caen striker Yohan Gouffran who is being vigorously pursued by both PSG and Arsenal. Indeed, it has been reported that PSG has already worked out a deal with the young striker however, other sources have dismissed this.

London’s Daily Telegraph is reporting that Arsenal is now very much in the hunt for Gourcuff’s services and not merely in a loan deal as they had previously stated. It seems Gunners coach Arsene Wenger is making a strong push to bring Gourcuff to the Emirates stadium with an open offer of around 21 million euros which AC Milan (the club that owns the rights to Gouffran) have apparently laughed off, and who is to blame them really. Indeed, the Rossoneri would rather loan the player to another Serie A side before accepting such an offer.
