Kanga Akale, where art thou?
By: Jay | December 6th, 2007
It must seem like a neverending nightmare for Kanga Akale. The Ivorian international was brought to Lens on a 5 year contract by the short lived regime of Guy Roux with the understanding that he would assume a titular role in the blood and gold and provide much needed firepower following the losses of Seydou Keita, Olivier Thomert, Jussie, Issam Jemma and Daniel Cousin. However, since new coach Jean-Pierre Papin’s arrival at La Gaillette the explosive forward has been virtually forgotten making a sustitute appearance a week ago against Lorient.

Many Lens fans are asking why this has happened? It was bad enough that Bonaventure Kalou packed his belongings and went along to the UAE never to be seen again but Akale’s relegation by the new regime seems absolutely inexplicable. Moreover, with players of far less talent such as Luigi Pieroni and Olivier Monterrubio receiving substantial minutes ahead of Akale the scenario becomes even more puzzling.
In this weekend’s upcoming match against Le Mans Aakale will once again be left out of the selection. No injury report has surfaced from La Gaillette but some are speculating whether or not Lens is keeping such a situation from reaching the press for fear of securing a better payoff from several interested clubs this winter. Real Betis of Spain and Toulouse are seen as the most interested in aquiring the forward’s services this winter.

It all makes little sense to me and Aakale will be asked to feature on the Ivory Coast side in the African Cup of Nations this January so we shall see his talents on display there.

Kanga Akale is a talented player. Obviously Papin is having issues if he’s benching good players for no reason (Carriere as well).
And people ask why Lens is not doing well. Geez.
