“Le Druide” Leclercq back at Lens
By: Jay | January 10th, 2008
Legendary coach Daniel Leclercq who led the blood and gold to the Ligue 1 championship in 1997/98 season has been reunited with his old mates at Lens.
this time Druide returns in the capacity of sporting director to aid struggling coach Jean-Pierre Papin.
“I have one objective, to bring the passion back to the Lens team and help Jean-Pierre Papin,” said Leclercq.
“He doesn’t deserve to be bearing the brunt of everything that is happening at the moment.”
As regular readers know the Lensois are facing rather serious problems, as the Ligue 1 outfit lie 18th in the table, a point away from the dreaded relegation zone.
Club president Gervais Martel has thus decided to bring back the precious Druide in a bid to stave off impending relegation.
The Frenchman managed Lens in the 1999 season, when they won the Ligue 1 title. Paris Saint Germain, champions Lyon and Valenciennes are Lens’ next tests, and Leclercq is expected to bring calm to a young group of players which includes new faces such as rising star Nadir Belhadj and veteran striker Toifilou Maoulida.
MICHAEL ENERAMO LENSOIS?
In other news, Lens is expected to sign at least one more player before the transfer window closes. The club was trying out talented Nigerian striker Michael Eneramo today and could be signed this week.

Jay, What’s the latest on Sidi Keita? Is he staying at Lens?

Dear John,
Welcome along to my readership. According to L’Equipe Sidi Keita is being coveted by Spanish side Murcia. However, the same journal also reported that Lens was not ready to part with the Malian. It may be that Lens holds him until the next transfer period then loans him or sells him outright. I will surely keep you informed on the matter.

PSG 3 - 0 Lens.
I’m so sad right now…I cannot believe what I saw on the pitch. Lens in no longer Lens. No fighting spirit, 11 scared players when they have the ball, a lot of technical faults (so much !!!), and so many problems…
This is so sad…

Thanks Jay, great blog. Was hoping Lyon would’ve picked Sidi Keita up, back when there seemed to be a desire to move him, now that we have one DMF on the roster,
